7 Things Every Woman Should Know about Laser Hair Removal

1. The modern laser hair removal systems are not painful.

The latest system, almost painless. Most clients only experience warmth in the area being treated, and some experience a very slight tingling sensation.

2. Three cooling systems.

It is important to consider the cooling method employed by the laser system, as this has a large impact on the comfort and safety of the treatment. Generally, there are three methods of cooling built into modern laser hair removal systems.

Water cooling : through windows cooled by circulating water or other internal coolant. This cooling method is by far the most effective way to protect the epidermis because it provides a constant cooling fin on the skin’s surface. Sapphire windows are much more conductive than quartz.

Cryogen spray : spray directly on the skin before or after the laser pulse.

Air-cooled: Air cooling system does not need to add water, forced cold air at -34℃degrees Celsius.

3. There are different types of laser wavelengths to choose from.

Choosing the best laser for your skin and hair type is critical to ensuring your treatment is safe and effective.

Alex: 755nm is best for lighter skin types, lighter hair colors and fine hair.

Diode: 810nm for many skin types.

ND: YAG 1064nm : the best choice for patients with dark skin types and dark hair.

More wavelengths covered in a single treatment generally equates to more effective results.

4. Treatment time.

6 to 8 treatments are recommended for best results, some areas with strong hair growth (such as the face and bikini area) may require more treatments. Facial laser hair treatment should be done every 4 weeks for the first 4 treatments and every 4-6 weeks thereafter. Body laser hair removal treatment every 6 weeks for the first 4 treatments and every 6-8 weeks thereafter.

5. How many treatments?

Laser hair removal will only treat hair in the growing phase, and approximately 10-15% of the hair in any given area will be in this phase at any time. Each treatment, 4-8 weeks apart, will treat a different hair at this stage of its life cycle, so you may see a hair loss of 10-15% per treatment. Most people will have 6 to 8 treatments per area, possibly more for more resistant areas such as the face or private areas.

6. Patch testing is essential.

Even if you have had laser hair removal before at a different clinic, it is important to have a patch test before laser hair removal treatment. The procedure allows the laser therapist to check your skin for laser hair removal, and it also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. A general examination of your skin will be done, and then a small area of each part of your body you want to treat will be exposed to the laser. In addition to ensuring no adverse reactions occur, this provides the clinic with the opportunity to tailor the machine settings to your individual requirements to ensure safety and treatment comfort.

 7. Preparation is very important.

In addition to shaving, avoid any other methods of hair removal, such as waxing, threading, or hair removal creams, for the first 6 weeks of treatment. Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds for 2 to 8 weeks. It is necessary to shave any area to be treated with the laser to ensure the treatment is safe and effective. The best time to shave is about 8 hours before your appointment time.

This gives your skin time to calm down and any redness will subside, while still leaving a smooth surface for laser treatment. If the hair is not shaved, the laser will primarily attack the hair outside the skin. This can be uncomfortable and may increase the risk of side effects. This will also make the treatment ineffective or less effective.
